Our free flamingo illustrations are perfect for adding on to all kinds of fabrics and textiles, which can be done nice and simply using printable HTV or image transfer paper. But we’re crafters, so why take the easy road when we can go for some super cool and pretty embellishments? If you want your finished project to be as eye catching as a flamingo, a great way to do this is by adding some hand embroidery to your designs - you can use stitches to outline an image, add some texture to the design or give it a little extra flair with metallic thread, beading or sequins.
Ideally, you’ll need an embroidery hoop, to keep the fabric taut and help section off the design, so you can focus on one area at a time while stitching. If you’ve never stitched before, a good tip is to start stitching from the back of the fabric to the front, don’t use sections of thread that are too long and keep an eye on what’s going on on the reverse side to avoid nasty knots! With the right color combo, even simple running stitches will look great, but you can check out some more elaborate designs, like the chain stitch, in online tutorials.
